Medical Devices Stakeholder Forum

MeDDIC hosts the secretariat for the MDSF, which is aimed at providing a platform for increased cooperation and information sharing amongst key stakeholders in the medical devices and diagnostics ecosystem. The MDSF can additionally be used by international stakeholders to engage the South African medical device and diagnostics ecosystem constituents.

Support for Regulatory Compliance

MeDDIC has teamed up with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to offer regulatory and technical support to those in the sector developing new or improved medical devices and diagnostics. This ensures that innovators in the sector can follow rigorous regulatory compliance in their product development and commercialization endeavours.

Seed Funding for Product Development

MeDDIC is supporting several projects to develop innovative medical devices and diagnostics and to localize the production of currently imported devices through seed fund grants.

Medical Devices Innovation Bridge Portal

The CSIR has, on behalf of MeDDIC, developed a dedicated portal on their national Innovation Bridge website that provides information on medical device and diagnostic developers, manufacturers, support service providers and research capability in one digital location.

Capacity Development for Medical Device Innovation

MeDDIC is working with academia and industry to capacitate and upskill medical device innovators and industry personnel in product development, registration and commercialization, ensuring that South Africa has a capable workforce that can innovate and manufacture, sell and export high quality, internationally registered medical devices. A pilot regulatory internship program is in progress to provide experiential training in regulatory compliance within local host companies.

Fund Raising and Advocacy
