MeDDIC
The Medical Device and Diagnostics Innovation Cluster (MeDDIC) is a national initiative that drives ecosystem development, innovation and growth in South Africa’s medical devices and diagnostics sector. The initiative is supported by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) and the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), and is hosted by the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC).
MeDDIC connects expertise, infrastructure, and industry to boost local innovation and manufacturing and strengthen the sector’s global competitiveness.
MeDDIC hosts the secretariat for the MDSF, which is aimed at providing a platform for increased cooperation and information sharing amongst key stakeholders in the medical devices and diagnostics ecosystem.
MeDDIC has teamed up with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to offer regulatory and technical support to those in the sector developing new or improved medical devices and diagnostics.
MeDDIC is supporting several projects to develop innovative medical devices and diagnostics and to localize the production of currently imported devices through seed fund grants.
The CSIR, on behalf of MeDDIC have developed a dedicated portal that provides information on medical devices, diagnostic developers, manufacturers, support service providers and research capability.
